Rosewater and Sodabread

Here’s that review I promised.

Sometime during December I struggled through a book called Rosewater and Soda Bread by Marsha Mehran. It was part of the 3 books in 3 weeks that Laura, Emily and I were a part of.Rosewater and Soda Bread

It was a strange book. I normally don’t enjoy reading books that written from various characters perspectives. I like it to all be objective, or just from one key characters point of view. Unless the book is cleverly written and the author handles the various points of view well.

I found myself unsure of what the plot of the story was and from who’s point of view I was reading from. I believe it introduced too many unnecessary characters with too much unnecessary information. I feel the main plot of the story should have been more developed.

However I did enjoy the Irish setting of the novel and the recipes mentioned by all the sisters. I found myself often hungry while reading this book. I would have loved to have eaten at their little restaurant.

Overall, it was a little difficult to read, but still managed to finish it in the week I was assigned, just.

I could just be reviewing this in a negative frame of mind but I’ve just read so much better before.

2 stars.
