L.G.F

Hey all

This is my best beautiful buddy Laura.

Let me tell you all about her.

I met Laura when we both 13 turning 14. The year was 2002 and I had the most ridiculously short hair and Laura was the Middle School Captain.

A friendship developed over common interests, common subjects and common friends. But what developed was not common at all. Rather unusual and special and a little bit unbreakable.

Sharing important moments together like maths, break ups, school captains retreats, formals, youth camps, blogging, Hillsong, Europe 08 planning, connect groups, NERF, long distance friendship for 3 months, reverb, interpretive white board erasing, lunch dates, the Book, new houses, countless birthday parties, letters, letters written backwards – this is only part of the history that is Laura and Steffany.

Laura has got about a million and one different skills – photography, painting, sock making, dancing, preaching, drawing, writing. She’s gorgeous as get all out – yet they are almost none of the reasons I love her. I love her because she is kind. I love her because she is honest. I love her because she is faithful. I love her because she is supportive. I love her because she is funny. I love her because she thinks I am funny. I love her because she loves Jesus. I love her because she isn’t afraid of being amazing. I love her, like a lot.

Next year we celebrate our 10 year frieneversary. We’ll have to celebrate before she leaves. I’m going to miss her a crazy amount – but I know our friendship has got guts and can hack it. 🙂

Will Swanson.. I’m not letting her go that easy!

Quotable Fashion

I stole a book from my best friend Emily who I’m pretty sure received this book as a present from my other best friend Laura. Let me share some quotes with you that came out of the book. The book is called ‘The One Hundred’ by Nina Garcia. Yes, another fashion post, deal with it.

A waist is a terrible thing to waste – Anonymous

Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury – Coco Chanel

There are no ugly women, only lazy ones – Helena Rubinstein

I can resist everything except for temptation – Oscar Wilde

Jewellery takes people’s minds off your wrinkles – Sonja Henie

While clothes may not make the woman, they certainly have a strong affect on her self confidence – which, I believe, does make a woman – Mark Kay Ash

We must never confuse elegance with snobbery – Yves St Laurent

Adventure is worthwhile in itself – Amelia Earhart

Ah, the things you can learn from coffee table books. If I ever get around to deciding I’m cool enough to write a book, it would be a coffee table book.

Friendship

Friendship is possibly the great thing in the world. Lately I’ve been reminded just how lucky I am.

Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art.. it has no survival value; rather it gives value to survival. C.S Lewis

On Sunday night I got to see 3 of my best friends. They are not the most perfect people in life but they are perfect for my life.

Tegan Churcher

I met Tegan Churcher when I was 9 years old. I moved to a state called Tasmania because my Dad was becoming the minister of Devonport Church of Christ. Tegan’s mother, Sharon, was in charge of all things creative there. So that’s how we met. Unfortunately we’re still friends to this day and she can still remember that I wore a nightie the first time I met her. Tegan Churcher is my bestest friend. We have been friends for 12 years now and it’s a bond we’re proud to say is a little bit freakish. Tegan loves interior design, Jesus, trying new things and thankfully, she loves me. She has great taste in music & in fashion. People say we look alike. I think that’s a lie. We are the same person, she is just 10 times better looking than I am.

Laura Fraser

I don’t recall the specific time and place that I met Laura Fraser, although it was much later on in life than when I met Tegan. Laura and I started to become friends in Science class. We actually really bonded over this little personal joke we got going which was N.E.R.F’s. It’s basically a nerdier way to be a nerd. But let’s face it.. I gave up being a nerd or a nerf a long time ago, LF is still going strong. Which is actually one of the the things I love about Laura. She’s really intelligent. Sometimes she misses jokes but don’t let that fool you. Laura Fraser will do great things. Laura Fraser is crazy, I love crazy Laura. Laura is a brilliant writer, artist, dancer, speaker, thinker, photographer and friend.

Emily Averill

I never really met Emily Averill. She’s one of those people that everyone that you know, knows, so then you end up knowing her. What I will say is though, that from the moment we started talking and hanging out.. give us like.. 3 months.. and we were at best friend status. Laura, Emily & I did so many things together and I think the 3 of us sort of became a thing. Emily Averill is different. I think she processes the world differently than the rest of us and I really like that. She’s an insane artist. She should really be making a lot of money out of what she does. She’s a brilliant singer, although she really doesn’t think so. She’s a little more than insanely good looking. Track pants & baggy t-shirt or a lbd – she’s stunning. She’s a great friend, girlfriend, sister & daughter. Her relationships are fresh and exciting, and despite being two years younger than me, I have learnt so much from being in her life.

Rebecca Mumberson

I really clearly remember the first time I met Bec Mumberson. Clearer than the three girls I’ve already mentioned. It was at Grade 9 camp on a bus. I’m very pale and had put sunscreen on my face and rubbed it in, and then put another layer on my face sort of like zink, just to be a little bit weird, but also for extra protection. Bec looked at me with utter disgust as she rolled her eyes ‘Look, do you realise you have sunscreen ALL over you face?’. I told her yes I did, and went on my merry way. Our friendship has frown over the years despite the rough start. Rebecca is kind, thoughtful, persistent, clever, gorgeous, engaged, creative and a really great friend. So many of my happiest memories are filled with this wonderful lady. I can’t wait to be a part of her wedding day.

I love birthdays and I love birthday parties. I think the greatest thing about birthday parties is how self centered they can be. For one night, it can pretty much all about you. There’s sometimes nice about showing a person how much you care about them, but choosing to stop being selfish for one night. Plus there are presents and cake. Two things I’m rather fond of.

This photo is at the airport. I love that friends support you. That’s what friendship is I think. If you set out on a new adventure, in God, in your career, in life – friends are there to support you.

A friend hears the song in my heart and sings it to me when my memory fails.– Anonymous

I think I’m pretty lucky. The greatest thing about this post is, there’s a lot of amazing friends of mine who aren’t on this page right here. I’m lucky to have them in my life as well.

Status Updates

For those times when twitter and facebook aren’t large enough to express all the status updates you wish you could share..

Steffany….

Steffany is dancing around her clean room in pj’s.

Steffany is really taking her time getting ready for bed

Steffany was reminded tonight that worship is about alignment.

Steffany is GANGSTA.

Steffany is hungry cos all she had for dinner was Chocolate pudding

Steffany’s phone is playing up and is saying it has no memory.. when that is a LIE.

Steffany enjoyed Laura’s bedroom post. And is wondering if her wardrobe is interesting enough to do something similar.

Steffany wishes she had a natural flair for fashion, rather than a really forced attempt at it.

Steffany is pondering 21st party ideas.

Steffany thinks that she thinks about a lot and all at one time.

Her blog is better than mine

Life gives people a bit of grief at times I think. I think life can really give girls in particular a lot of grief (although what would I know about the grief of a man?). One of the issues girls struggle with noticeably in their teens and then subtly in the early twenties etc is that whole jealousy issue. I think that we often sit there and think ‘her clothes are better than mine’, ‘her hair is better than mine’, ‘her boyfriend is better than my lack of boyfriend’  – you know, those kind of things. Now that we officially live and breathe technology, not only do we have to worry about shoes, figures, hair do’s and car’s.. we have blogs to worry about. That’s all I really struggle with at the moment.

Blog jealousy. I wonder if you suffer from it to?

Perhaps you don’t have a blog.. and the reason isn’t because you don’t have time, or you don’t feel like you have something to say, but that you truly think no one would read it. Perhaps you do have a blog and you know nobody reads it. Perhaps you have a blog and people read it and like it, but you’re one of those strange people who is jealous anyway. If you said a mental yes to any of the above then you probably suffer from blog jealousy.

In the spirit of trying to get over my blog jealousy.. check out my friends blogs who are better than mine.

Laura Fraser – has a great all rounder blog, I’m jealous

Emily Averill – has some awesome art and thoughts, I’m jealous

Sarah Starrenburg – has insight and wisdom, I’m jealous

and you should check out Will’s blog — simply because it’s a good blog.

Worth the effort

Despite normally being a ridiculously busy person, while I’m on uni holidays, there isn’t a whole lot for me to do at work. So I fill my time with lots of different websites, blogs and online communities. It’s a bit crazy how many different username and passwords I have to remember. The mind does indeed boggle. Here’s a handful of my favourites at the moment.

Shelfari is really great if you’re really into books.

Best thing about Shelfari is being able to organise all of my reading from years past to current readings.

Toni Snell’s Blog is a fairly new discovery.

I like it because she photographs weddings so beautifully, and has done a fair few people that I know

Chictopia is a website for people who are really into fashion, those willing to share their insight, or those willing to gain insight.

The worst thing about Chictopia is feeling the need to upload photos of yourself in very fashionable clothing and sometimes feeling a little, well, unfashionable.

I discovered youversion.com because Sarah Starrenburg showed me how great it was for online journalling.

Greatest features on the website would probably be the ability to make journal notes or contributions private or public, and being able to choose which version of the bible you’d like

This is a favourite because despite the exchange rate, I still find shopping for books and dvd’s online a lot easier

The worst thing about amazon.com is forgetting to think about postage costs and paying more than you thought

I enjoy lauraandfriends because it is regularly updated, varied, funny and helps to keep me up to date with the inner workings of Laura

The thing that would make it a better website would be more frequent posts.

Murder on a Midsummer Night

Another book that was a part of 3 books in 3 weeks. Murder on a Midsummer Night by Kerry Greenwood.

I think I enjoyed this better than Rosewater and Soda Bread. It was only a 3 day read rather than the full week plus a little bit extra time I needed for Rosewater and Soda Bread and I think it had something to do with the fact that it was the first book I had read in a while where I had a deadline to read it by. It reminded me of school, so I’m not sure if I can truly appreciate the book for what it could be worth.

Murder on a Midsummer NightI found Phryne Fisher to be an interesting lead character. I believe Greenwood was tyring to portray her as somewhat cold, that because of her detective work and the fact that the majority of her clients weren’t living, she removed herself emotionally to avoid dealing with pain. However her shockingly cold approach to matters of the heart I found difficult to deal with. I can imagine a detective having to use an exterior like that to protect themselves from hurt or disturbing thoughts or images. But I thought Greenwood could have given Miss Fisher more soul, more heart. Perhaps that was the problem, she was difficult for me to identify with.

The story itself was fine and fairly well constructed. I couldn’t guess at the ending which made for some fairly entertaining reading and I think I was fairly jealous of the lifestyle Phryne lead. Wealthy, came and went as she pleased, successful.

The difficulties I had with the book.. Well, at the end of each chapter there was a small paragraph or two about several characters that were never introduced in the book. At the start you read them thinking it would resolve itself later on, that perhaps it held clues to the mystery Phryne Fisher was solving. But I never figured it out. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m slow — or whether it wasn’t actually made clear.

Laura have you read this yet? Did that make sense to you?

Emily??

Anyone??

Birthdays and Haircolour..

Have you ever noticed that redheads haven’t always had the best repuation..
We’re either fiery redheads, or dorky redheads, or sunburnt redheads, or freckly, pale redheads.. For a long time it wasn’t cool to be a redhead.
Now some of you will still say it isn’t cool, but I’m here to tell you that you’re wrong.
I was born a redhead (no matter how pale it is) and despite my various attempts to “get rid” of my reddish hair.. I am still very proud to be a redhead. There’s something incredibly wonderful about being a part of TEAM RED.. running to the sound of REDNUTS ASSEMBLE.. and of course the joys of slip slop slapping 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 12 months a year!

I’ve noticed with my hair, that some strands are blonde, (some strands natural blonde, some fake) strands of brown, strands of orange, and then strands of red. Today I found a strand of red.. It’s kind of wirey.. and very cool. The pure red strands are getting rare, as whenever I find one I pull it out and just marvel at the wonder.. *I thought I would share this all with you*

Also – a big holla to my homie.. (what’s with the gangsta talk steff?) Laura Fraser.. whose birthday it is today.
Love your insides Laura. Now you can get married, and let’s hurry up about it.

Things I’ve noticed recently..

  • To build up your comment tally – post something meaningless.. then don’t post again for another week.. Proof = 26 comments.. From a 4 worded post!
  • Sometimes it’s easier to be honest with everyone else than it is to be truly honest with yourself.
  • People tend to neglect their blogs during exam time..
  • Aquarium’s are apparently all the rage!
  • That one can never have too many pillow’s.. I have 8 and counting..
  • There’s absolutely nothing wrong with praying for puppies..
  • The later at night it gets – the brighter everyone’s headlights seem..
  • That there are several types of friends..

Friends you only joke around with, friends you only fight with, friends who “get” you, friends who don’t seem to have a thing in common with you, friends who pray for you, friends you pray for, friends you spend all your time with, friends you never see, friends you encourage, and friends who encourage you..and friends who just seem to be an odd but great combination of everything.

Laura Fraser and I had lunch today – we held hands and kissed.. TWICE!!
